Haze Update

While we are literally choking on the fumes here back home in Victoria it looks like Xmas with unprecedented snowfalls. People here in the office are now starting to wear masks and I finally have to admit it is getting to me me with dry eyes and throat. It would seem our office aircon sucks in too much air from outside where visibilty is reducing every day. Now schools are closing and they say it is with us until October. Darn those pesky Sumatrans who are letting the fires burn on their side of the fence. Maybe we should line up all our fans together and see if we can blow it back to their side.

This is how it looks from my room window. Am wondering if I should tell the family stay away a bit longer in the hope that it improves before they get back.

Amazing

Spotted on boing boing this site that shows police videos of criminals stealing bait cars, people never cease to amaze me. Check out the dude who gets the stereo in 30 seconds.

Not sure what to make of this since the old testament tells us it a very dangerous thing to play around with as many found much to their dismay. More than a little pride in Mr Jones words as well.

Oil for Kids

Not a great picture but thought fellow BLCians might find it interesting. The fellow on the right is Peter Young who spoke at BLC not too long ago. The event was a media challenge to get better mileage for which Shell is going to make a cash pledge to the Shelter home for children.

The other fellow is the MD of Shell.

The first comic book to film star

I saw as I wait in the lounge that Christopher Reeve has passed away today. I remember how much I enjoyed the Superman films and they were the first, long before Spiderman and the other recent converts. Sadly his accident proved that men are not made of steel in the physical sense though he had the heart of Superman and never gave up.

It's a long and winding sky

Well another long week over albeit with a bit of fun thrown in. The US is a fun place to visit but in a sense a little unreal. I visited a couple of colleagues houses which were just amazing. They are literally huge with the sort of kitchen I only dream about. In Texas more than half of the cars are large SUV's - these things make a range rover look puny so you can imagine the scale.

There are big malls dotted over the landscape and of course wal mart which is the king of discount places over here. There are dozens of fast food franchises, if you think the mega mall has a lot - think again folks they only scratch the surface and this was just one state.

There are more Churches per square mile than any where else I have been, at least advertised anyway. There are three channels of TV evangelists *cringe* and ten channels of infomercials selling everything but mostly self image and how to lose weight and get great abs. Even got to see part of a presidential debate.

In spite of this I didn't see too many great abs and I didn't really feel God's presence. Yes the US has everything you could want but it is surreal. And why the long and winding sky ? it is going to take me a day and a half to get back with the time difference thrown in !
