I have been following the series of short films being released by 15 Malaysia the last couple of weeks. I am not sure if they would have as much meaning for me without having lived in Kl for a while but I am truly impressed by them. Not only the quality given these are clearly low budget productions but the depth of emotions they have been able to convey. Is it coincidental that these are being released at a time when there is so much friction and hurting in the country ? I think not but rather they are an emotional outpouring from those with the creative outlet to tell the stories as they should be told.
It made me surprisingly nostalgic for Malaysia and it's multi faceted society, it angered me all over again for the lack of tolerance for those with the least, it made me laugh at the portrayal of the lengths Malaysians will go to save a ringitt and it saddened me that a father and son find themselves in that situation.
In truth these stories are to be found in every country but it is so easy to turn a blind eye when at home. I look forward to seeing all of these as they are released and pray that in some way they are taken note of and acted upon by those with the authority to make real and lasting change.
On this occasion most definitely Malaysia Bolleh
yes, and there are many more short films coming up that tell many stories that many of us would have felt...
