A 16-year-old Malaysian student has been forced to smoke 42 cigarettes, four at a time, over two hours as punishment for smoking. ‘‘This is not normal. We don’t do that often,’’ a school official said. The government allows boys to be whipped with a rattan cane for offences such as smoking.
