Sigrun and I watched half the old John Houston/De Laurentis epic 'The Bible' last night. Interesting to see how they interpreted the text and of course some Hollywood license at work. We will probably finish the other half tonight. It is a bit slow going at first but the section with Noah was quite wry in parts.
Seems the directors made it tongue in cheek which I guess if you were there at the time you would have also been hard to convince. More importantly a few things we had not considered when reading Genesis came to mind so there is some benefit in watching these.
I recall P Sivin telling us that this was part of seminary also and a quick search on Amazon reveals that there are a surprising number of such titles available. Must find out if Sivin has an 'approved' list so we might get some more.
I showed a clip from a CBS version of "Jesus" last week ... not that I fully endorse the "artistic-dramatic" license hollywood is famous for, ut it is interesting how "directors" choose to retell the story. In some ways it's a way for me to find out what "concerns" us ..
