Experimenting With Crumble

Kirsten was impressed but probably a bit rich for Declan as he didn't finish his portion. Will have to wait until tomorrow to get dear's critique.

Good Friday Feast

We ate seafood in keeping with the old tradition though I confess I don't know the meaning behind it. The morning service was meaningful and did remind us of the sacrifice our Lord made for us. Particularly poignant for me this year was the monologue Jesus makes as his death draws near. The feeling of separation from the Father is the only thing that truly frightens him. Makes us think about our own sin and how without that divine intervention we would not be able to go into God's presence. For that reason Good Friday can be as much of a celebration as a period of sadness.

Thanks Lord for the good food and opportunity to be together....

Guess Who Has Come to Melbourne

Old Town Kopitiam now have a franchise here as we discovered wandering about the city on Sunday. It was a nice surprise as we were looking for a place to eat a late lunch in Chinatown. The menu looks a lot like it did in PJ or anywhere else and the food was great. I had bak kut teh and Sigrun went for the nasi lemak with beef rendang and sambal sotong. Very yummy !

 

   

Batchelor's Dinner Part Two

You know food comes upon you in the strangest places and I get inspiration accordingly. Last night was a lazy  pizza from the local italian restaurant with a pizzeria on the side. (we are lucky to have these options in walking distance like our KL brethren)

However yesterday on one of my missions I stopped by Barbeques Galore to get a new grill cleaning stone (those things are great) and found a little cast iron pot advertised as a garlic prawn pot. I can see many uses for this little delight but decided the prawns a good start.

Tonights batchelor dinner then was a two course affair (those of you who know me well also know I am not bothered with dessert) of garlic prawns and penne paste with a tomato based chorizo sauce. Hopefully the pics speak for themselves, the music during prep was good and louder than when the family is here, and needless to say I enjoyed a semillon sauvignon blanc with the prawns and a cabernet merlot with the pasta. Life is good...

   

 

Dear knows this is m y preferred meal of choice when making a quick easy dinner and will be annoyed she missed this one as it was a cracker to use the vernacular.

First attempt tonight, got excited after seeing it on the F word, Sigrun was happy with the outcome and was happy enough for a first try at it. Got some ideas now for next time.
